a) Programme Types

The BBC Radio Cambridgeshire schedule for Friday 23rd March 2018:

Using the schedule above, I narrowed each show down to one genre and worked out the amount of time each genre took up within the schedule.

c) Audience Profiles
d) Production Processes
Radio Cambridgeshire Breakfast ShowA lot of the first 10 minutes was the news segment. Dotty McLeod, the presenter, introduced herself and the show, giving a quick teaser of the topics that would be discussed over the course of the show in order to intrigue the listener into wanting to listen to the whole show. She then immediately segwayed into the news segment which lasted for about 5 minutes. The news presenter was being broadcast live however the interview clips were pre-recorded.
There was about 2 minutes worth of music within the first 10 minutes, all of which was background music for when the presenter was talking. The music was quite upbeat, likely to get the listeners awake as it is early in the morning.
Radio 1 Breakfast Show
There is music playing through the majority of the first 10 minutes, unlike with Radio Cambridgeshire, and very minimal talking from the presenter, Nick Grimshaw. The music is pre-recorded and played as small clips of songs mixed together to give the listener an idea of the type of music that the show plays as well as-as full-length songs. There are 3 full-length songs played in the first 10 minutes.
Nick's introduction to the show is pre-recorded and includes short clips from previous shows where he has talked to celebrities. He briefly speaks about 8 minutes in before playing another song. His attitude and style are very cheerful and informal and inclusive of his audience.
The Stages of making a Radio Show:

I am not interested in the main presenting roles on the show. I am, however, interested in a lot of the jobs within the pre-recorded production stage that involves creating the sound effects, recording the package content and news interviews, and editing them.
e) Market Share
The following figures and graphs are taken from the Media.info website. In December of 2017 5.6% of all radio listeners listened to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. The first collected data dates back to June of 1999 and states that the percentage was 9%. It is likely that the decrease in the percentage of the market share is due to the increase in the number of radio stations since 1999.

The survey area is the county Cambridgeshire. To the right is a map of the county, showing what towns/cities are within it. The most recent data entry is for December 2017 and shows that 763,000 of the population within Cambridgeshire participated in the survey. Out of that 763,000, 91,000 listened to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire weekly.

Firstly, according to the media.info website, a listener is classified as an adult (aged 15+) who tunes in for at least five minutes every week. As of December 2017, the station is at its lowest ratings for weekly listeners at 91,000. In comparison, the highest rating for the number of listeners is 155,000.
